Acting credits include the musical Annie; films such as Woman Thou Art Loose, Be Easy, Operation Midnight Climax, and Thug Passion. Currently, she is acting and one of the executive producers for Charisma, Inc. Also, she is currently playing the role of Grace in the touring musical play Still Standing. Born in Jackson, MS, Vernetra LaDawn Gavin realized that she wanted to be an actress at the tender age of 8. She started acting in local school and church plays. At the age of 14, she auditioned and was accepted into the Academic and Performing Arts Complex (APAC) where she studied Theatre. During her senior year of high school, she was selected to participate in a junior training at the Julliard School of the Arts. She decided to attend Jackson State University and was a part of the Dunbar Dramatic Guild. After college graduation, she auditioned and was accepted into the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York. I am overly excited about this project because it serves as an outlet for our youth. Still Standing gives a ray of hope to our “have not” children. It is a beautiful story of success despite trails and tribulations. As an educator as well as an actress, I am extremely fond of projects that intervene and reach our at-risk youth; it is important for them to know that they are not alone.
